The Rotation DietDesigned by an obesity expert and a psychologist, the Rotation diet claims to cause weight loss by reducing overall calorie intake without causing your body to lower its metabolic rate as it does during fasting. How Rotation Diet WorksThis plan advocates a rotation of diets of differing calorie levels, followed by no dietary or caloric restriction for 1-4 weeks. For example, it suggests an extremely low calorie regimen for 3 days, followed by a more modest calorie reduction for 4 days, followed by a week of mild calorie control. Different Calorie-Controlled Eating PlansThe diet recommends different calorie levels for men and women. These dietary plans are designed to create a calorie deficit of about 7000 calories in the first week and about 6000 calories in the second. This, the authors claim, should trigger a weight loss of about 4 pounds. Recommended Diet Schedule For Women- 600 calories a day for 3 days Recommended Diet Schedule For Men- 1200 calories per day for 3 days Rotation Diet: Hunger and SatietySome of these eating plans are very low calorie, and may cause serious hunger pangs. In such a case, the diet advises you to fill up on "free vegetables" (eg. asparagus, celery, lettuce, cucumber, spinach, watercress and zucchini), or "safe" fruits (eg. apples, berries, cantaloupe, grapefruit, oranges, peaches and pineapple.) |
Rotation Diet: Food Serving SizesThe diet uses standard serving sizes, as outlined in the Dietary Guidelines For Americans issued by USDA. There are no ban on caffeine or alcohol. Rotation Diet: Behavioral Changes to Lose WeightThe diet offers a range of advice on behavioral management to ease hunger, appetite and diet compliance. These suggestions are interesting and helpful for many dieters. Rotation Diet: Our OpinionOn the face of it, if you adhere strictly to this diet you will lose weight in the short term. However, the low calorie nature of the plan is likely to cause severe hunger pangs and may prove difficult to follow. When normal eating habits resume, rebound weight gain is probable. We advise anyone interested in the Rotation diet to consult a doctor beforehand, and to take a multinutrient (multivitamin and multimineral) supplement during the diet. |
