One of the latest diet fads is the Negative Calorie Diet. A type of catabolic diet, it comes in various forms, but typically urges you to eat certain diet foods which (the diet claims) possess "negative calorie" effects, thus helping you to lose weight fast.

Various pseudo-scientific explanations are offered for these amazing weight loss benefits. Sadly, the truth is, no foods possess a "negative calorie" effect or any other amazing "fat-burning" or "metabolism-boosting" weight loss benefits. If only weight loss and dieting were really so simple.

Clinical trials clearly show that all food, whatever its fat, carb or protein content, causes us to take in calories. This research undermines the catabolic or negative calorie claim that certain diet foods cause a calorie-deficit.
